My husband has always been very conscious of his weight. When I met him, he was 175 pounds. During our 5 years together, he has been up and down but never was able to reach his “single” life weight again.
This is definitely a mystery to me since he is the master chef in our house and I make the meal plan so we eat pretty healthy. I’ve also ran hormone panels on him to make sure it wasn’t a hormonal thing and we have corrected his imbalances. I’ve also balanced sugar consumption in our lifestyle (he’s the one with the sweet tooth in the house), even his alcohol consumption decreased considerably during this 5 years and counts towards his sugar of choice.
At the same time, it has been a struggle to keep his bad cholesterol (LDL) low as he tends to be one of those people that no matter what, their cholesterol stays high. We were able to reduce it once about 100 points but still was in the high range and he refuses to take medicine which I am supporting him for now.
Then I started noticing he was finally losing weight. I got worried for some days because we couldn’t pinpoint what was causing that unexpected weight loss. I kept thinking it was me over-working him on our new house weekend projects (of course he went along with this version to his advantage!). The funny thing is he didn’t know what was causing him to lose weight either as he had not made any other changes.
Until last weekend.
We went grocery shopping and he grabbed a new bottle of our usual unfiltered apple cider vinegar (Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar). It caught my attention as I know we add it to some foods but a bottle will usually last us a while. So I asked him: “How come we finished the last bottle so fast?”, and he said “I’ve been taking it on an empty stomach for about 2 months now to see if it helps to lower my cholesterol”.
It turns out that about 2 months ago, one of his friends mentioned his wife keeps her cholesterol in range with APPLE CIDER VINEGAR so he decided to give it a try but he didn’t tell me and I didn’t notice it. He started taking 1 tsp in a glass of water on an empty stomach every day.
Some studies say that apple cider vinegar helps to lose weight as it helps you feel full longer, therefore eating less. This was not the case for my husband. When we regulate our sugar levels, one of the immediate benefits is belly fat loss. So I truly believe that in my husbands case, this is the factor that has made it possible for him. Keep in mind he has never been diabetic or suffered from high sugar (glucose) levels that we know of but he loves his sweets.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: Fermented sugar from apples
MAIN BENEFITS: Lowers Blood Sugar and Lowers Cholesterol
Now, I can’t promise this will work for everyone, but it is worth a try if overweight is an issue. Apple cider vinegar has amazing properties and it’s a great addition to your lifestyle anyway.
My husband was 188 pounds when he started the vinegar and now he is back to his “single” life weight: 177 pounds. What’s nice is he lost weight in his trouble area (aka, the belly) but kept the muscle as opposed to other weight loss methods where you lose weight everywhere (even in areas you don’t want!).
My recommendation if you are going to give it a shot and try it on an empty stomach is the same one I always give for any new addition to your lifestyle. Start on a day you have off from work so that you can relax, pay attention to your body and how it reacts to this new food and have the comfort of your own bathroom close by just in case. My husband had no side effects at all, so don’t predispose yourself but for those that get nervous of trying anything new, well just do it comfortably.
Update: It’s been almost 6 months since he lost the weight, and it has stayed off.
